My dear and beloved members of Igbo Union Yorkshire (IUY),
I hope everyone has had some time to recover from the excitement, energy and, indeed, the hassle of Saturday’s event! 😊
I want to congratulate our Glorious women for bringing the cup home once again, and our youth for an impressive second-place finish. While the judges may have thought otherwise, we all saw the passion, creativity, and excellence in our girls' performance. In our eyes, they gave a first-class performance deserving of first place. 👏🏽👏🏽 Congratulations.
I commend our Women’s Leader and all the coordinators for their sacrifices, commitment and hard work in making this possible. Your dedication continues to make the IUY family proud.
Most importantly, I want to sincerely thank every member of IUY who sacrificed their Saturday to represent our Union. Your presence, solidarity, and contributions to promoting our rich culture and community growth are truly remarkable.
As President, I feel deeply honoured and encouraged by your uncommon support.
The Yorkshire vibe is special! It is a spirit of unity, togetherness and collective pride that is not easily found elsewhere. Please, let us keep it alive. We demonstrated very clearly that IUY has a strong stake in Ogbako, particularly at a time when our own distinguished leader serves as President. Thank you all for standing firmly behind our Union and our leadership.
I also wish to warmly congratulate Odogwu James Ukachukwu on receiving the Exceptional Philanthropy Award. Your generosity and selflessness have touched many lives, and this recognition says publicly what many people already know privately: you give generously without counting the cost. Congratulations, Odogwu! 👏🏽🏆
I must also commend our Executive Committee, particularly our Secretary and Assistant Welfare Director, Chief Paul Nwovu, for the excellent coordination and for ensuring that everyone was accounted for and no one was left behind. Your quiet work behind the scenes made a significant difference.
A very special commendation goes to our PRO, Nwada Nkiru Iwuanyanwu, for her outstanding coverage of the event. She worked tirelessly to ensure the IUY contingent's presence was felt, documented, and appropriately shared, while also keeping members who could not attend connected to the activities. Nwada, thank you for your dedication and commitment. 🙏🏽❤️
I also appreciate everyone who volunteered at the event. Your willingness to give your time and energy for the good of our community is greatly appreciated.
Finally, let me say this: Saturday was more than an event. It was a demonstration of who we are as Igbos in Yorkshire: united, proud, vibrant and committed to our heritage.
We will celebrate our women and youth properly in due course. For now, let us continue to celebrate one another, support one another and keep the IUY spirit burning brightly.
